Sagging and Puffy skin around the eyes is usually the result of age, sun damage, and/or fat deposits.  Eye lid surgery helps to remove that tired old look, by removing fat deposits and excess skin.  Usually takes 1-2 hours.  Usually is done under local anesthesia with a I.V. sedative. Most swelling last for 7-14 days.  A small number of patients may have residual swelling of discoloration of the skin around the eyes for several months.  You will be requested to avoid strenuous activity for 7-10 days so as to not put stress on the healing vessels around the eyes, which can lead to post operative bleeding and swelling. Usually you don't need to be off of work more than a couple of days unless it involves strenuous activities.

 Substantial swelling usually occurs for 24-48 hours postoperatively.  Swelling begins to subside at about 36 hours.  Makeup can be applied a day or two after stitches are removed, which usually occurs 4-6 days after the surgery.  You will be swollen with  bruising for up to two weeks.   Normal activity may be resumed within the after 5-7 days,  and most patients can feel comfortable in public after 10-14 days.
